Joint deposits and trust deposits are insured separately under their own categories. This means a single depositor can have well over $100,000 in total insured coverage across multiple categories. OSFI's B-20 guideline requires all uninsured mortgage applicants to qualify at the contract rate plus 2% or the benchmark qualifying rate — whichever is higher. For example, a 4.50% contract rate means you must demonstrate the ability to service the mortgage at 6.50%. This applies to new mortgages, renewals with a different lender, and refinances.
